The number of Covid-19 cases in Germany has reached an unforeseen high, just in time for a usually productive autumn and winter season. So we may well expect to go back to doing remote work from home again, rekindling our friendship with Zoom…. But please be safe and make sure you can enjoy good audio quality. Because acoustic trauma, hearing loss, headaches etc. are no joke. Interpreters offering RSI are constantly faced with such dangers. Following 5 simple tips will keep them and you safe. Learn more about these tips in this video of VKD - Germany's professional association for conference interpreters.

Or better yet, download it for free and use it to highlight the importance of good audio quality before or at the start of one of your next video conferences.

5 simple tips to make sure that your audio quality is sufficient for remote work:

  1. Close windows and doors to minimise any noise from outside. Try to eliminate any sources of noise inside the space you’re in, too.

  2. Optimise your acoustics. Curtains, bookshelves and soft furnishings can help improve the way your space absorbs sound.

  3. Ensure your internet connection is stable (preferably cabled). If your connection is weak or unreliable, your message could get lost entirely.

  4. Make sure you’re equipped. If you use proper audio equipment, such as a cabled headset, your voice will thank you.

  5. Be considerate. Don’t interrupt each other and remember to mute your microphone whenever you’re not speaking.
